There is / There are

O verbo haver
De repente você se pega dizendo que tem uma farmácia na esquina da seguinte maneira:
Have a drugstore on the corner.
Errado!
O fato de “to have” significar “ter” não é justificativa para usá-lo como o verbo haver, como em “Tem uma farmácia na esquina.”
Para este caso usaremos o vero “there to be”, ou seja, “there is” para singular e “there are” para plural. Confira os exemplos abaixo:
Singular
There is a dog barking in that house! It’s so annoying!
(Há um cachorro latindo naquela casa! É tão irritante!)
Plural
There are 25 cars waiting for inspection at the department.
(Há 25 carros esperando por inspeção no departamento.)
Como “there to be” é um verbo auxiliar, ele pode ser transformado em negação e interrogação facilmente:
There is a message for you in the office.
There ISN’T a message for you in the office.
IS there any message for me in the office?
E, claro, também podemos colocá-lo no past simple:
There WAS a girl I liked back in school days.
There WERE some bands I used to like when I was a teenager!
No futuro:
There WILL be a party next saturday. So you’re invited to come along!
No present perfect:
There HAS BEEN a murder next door! Call the police!
